What
do shopping, spin class, and a beard have in common? They are all part of my
continuing routine to prepare for the hike.
Every
time I think I'm done shopping, a few more items come to mind. Or I talk to
someone who mentions things I didn't think about.
So this
week I added a little weight to my pack.
Many items were small, but every ounce counts and the pounds are adding
up. Maybe I'll swap some things out. Or maybe I'll start out with all of
it and see how it goes.
I
also exchanged a few items I bought at REI. They are so great to work with when
you need to exchange! They know it's hard to get some things right the
first time, like the right size raincoat - I forgot to get a larger size to fit
over my jacket. The staff is helpful, professional, and very knowledgeable. REI
has become one of my favorite stores.
To
help get in shape, I started taking a spin cycle class in addition to walking
on the treadmill and weights.
Talk about a major workout!
My
face is beet red and I'm soaked through when I finish the class. But it's been
great for my knee, and for my breathing. I can tell a difference after only a
few weeks.
As
for the beard, I figure every bit of covering I can get for the early spring
mountain temps will help. And anyway, who has time for shaving on the trail!
Fourteen
days and counting. Time for more cycling...
