End of the Bear Canister, Passed 1,000 Miles

I had been looking forward to this week because Mary was picking me up for a scheduled visit on Saturday, July 16^th. I planned to get to Sonora Pass at the end of the Sierras to meet her. But the week’s hiking went faster than I thought.

Into the Sierras - Water, Water, Everywhere!

It's been a rocky journey (literally, rocks everywhere) this past week, and water everywhere - lakes, streams, waterfalls. Didn't get a chance to give Mary all the daily details, but shared some of the highlights. First, pictures from the last blog that I didn't get a chance to upload.

Out of the Desert, Finally!

Still in the desert, but not for long! And less than 2,000 miles to go. Sorry but I missed a few days in the upload of pictures for this blog, we had a few technical problems. Will include them next time.

Ostriches, Coyotes, and Mountain Goats

Sunday morning after my zero day, Peter drove me and a few others to get coffee at 6AM, then off to the trailhead. The first 4 miles weren’t too bad, then we started up Mount Baden Powell. The trail was more crowded than usual because of the weekend and lots of day hikers. Very steep climb, frequent stops and frequent panting. 

One Month Down

After our zero day on Tuesday, we set out Wednesday morning. Uber driver picked us up and dropped us off at the trail, we started hiking at 7:30. Mild climbs at first, then stopped at a small shaded area provided for hikers by the windmill company META. Met Tarzan, who got his name from hair and jumping over fallen trees really easy.

Highest Climb Yet

We started the week with a zero day. We walked a mile from our hotel to town. Usually, it’s not that far into town – hard to tell when we book the hotel exactly where it is.
